Civic Projects has designed and is renovating the Furniture Store apartments in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood. The project consists of returning ten abandoned 3-bedroom apartments to productive use. The furniture store on the ground level remains in business. Renovation consists of a complete gut and rehabilitation of the upper two levels to design and reconfigure these generous units. All systems are new including in unit heating, cooling, electrical panels and washer/dryer. Apartments include new wood floors, open kitchens with granite counter tops, and exposed brick walls. Another goal of this project is to maintain and restore existing “ghost signs,” relics of a time when the interior walls were once part of the exterior.
Civic Projects has also developed a conceptual design for the adjacent vacant lot.
