Southside Market is an upcoming micro grocery store and cafe located in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. Southside Market strives to provide local, fresh ingredients to an area of the city that historically has had very little access to fresh produce and healthy foods. The market will provide demonstrations on how to prepare fresh and healthy meals, working in tandem with adjacent community organizations and locations.

The market prioritizes its various mission elements, including to provide local wealth through collective ownership- serving the local community in a multitude of ways. Southside Market hopes to become a community anchor, connecting resources and local residents through events and a place to gather.

Civic Projects has been hired to collaborate with Southside Market to not only design their new and permanent space, but to facilitate community input in every aspect of the project. The Market will be a fixture in the Chatham community, and as such Civic Projects has worked with Southside Market’s Community Council, a council of community stakeholders open to everyone, to aid in the design of this space.
